Today, my grandparents told me to cherish my youth because life goes by fast. I wish they could give this advice to their younger selves. My grandparents live in a retirement community in South Florida, and they don’t get out much. Sometimes I feel bad for them, but I truly think they have everything they need. Or desire to have. My papa gave me his old watch and jacket, and this way I can take a piece of him home with me. I love them so much, but I don’t want to live like they do when I’m 85. I want to get out, exercise, soak in the sun, eat vegetables, and dress to impress. I want to stay youthful. Not in the mentally ill way, where you get a bunch of plastic surgery and convince yourself you’re 20 when you’re 60. But I want my grandkids to be able to go out with me. And have fun. It keeps you young.

This piece was inspired by my time visiting my grandparents in Florida. I was sitting in a coffee shop eating zucchini bread and the ideas started flowing. I hope you enjoy!
